CHAPTER 3  TRILOGY- PORTRAIT "Mind, Body, Soul"
                                                                         28 Feb 08

Remember, the “body” is physical and relative to age, the “mind” can  focus and move the
body with positive or negative thought energy; and our soul is maintained through
spiritualism which nourishes and maintains our mental and physical state.  Without this
trilogy at work for you, “true inner strength [at peace with yourself] to heal, maintain the
body, good health and live a long healthy life can’t be achieved!” You see body, mind, and
soul are the key components to maintaining the warrior mirror athlete image.  Recall,
through our own self portrait we “NEED” to see ourselves very different then other(s)
perspectives.  Your health is dependent on your personal development and maintenance of
the trilogy process and focus!  Not on how others would paint your portrait!  We here at
mirror athlete focus on the warrior trilogy components and apply our principles “healthy
mind, body and soul to the self portrait (how you see yourself).  Everyone is so different and
requires different health subset “lifestyle”components to nourish the trilogy.  These are
things like, good nutrition, exercise, proper balance of diet, proper sleep, stress balance,
work load balance… The list goes on and on.  Maintain your 3 trilogy components and each
day will provide you with much success, health, inner strength, personal success and
happiness!

Without “one” of these 3 components and/or abuse of any lifestyle subset component(s), the
body literally begins to die at an exponential rate [this is a very important point and will be
covered later].   All those that follow the trilogy philosophy (known and practiced by many
different cultures, philosophies, theologians, religions, etc.) have major success stories in
their lives and live by the trilogy philosophy every day [this is a common denominator with
good health and success stories!].  To simply ignore the makeup of the human spirit and the
significance of the other two components working within the trilogy is to seal your life with
less harmony, balance, riches and happiness that could otherwise be experienced, or
obtained.  It is easy to recognize individuals that are endowed with these trilogy
components, they are successful in every aspect with regard to balance and harmony within
their life… By no means should you confuse what I’m saying here.  No one is perfect, but
success and balance per the trilogy components applied to human behavior has a dramatic
impact summing up very positive energy to accomplish great things!

CHAPTER 14  “Disability Pain & Rome’s Social Engineering Relationship”
                                                                  12 April 2008

The Roman hierarchy wanted wealth, explicit self gratification through physical and mental
pleasures (socialites living like Lords), living as long as possible and exploiting human traffic
as much as possible.  Well we all know what happened to the Romans, Rome fell because
Rome became dependant on foreign armies and foreign labor (Outsourced – Sound
familiar).  They became soft and everything was taken away from them eventually.  They
ultimately were slaughtered, or made slaves of by a new empire.  There is a point to all of
this.  Our kids, educated or not with regard to the physical body and principles behind
health & longevity is either known, or not known by them.  The parents today want a better
life for their kids and provide every resource possible (they don’t want them to work hard
for whatever reason-Rome), or the child is educated in health preservation (understands
resourcefulness and self-preservation-Rome), or lazy (everything is outsourced for them-
Rome).   Since my generation and previous generations are basically physical labors
working towards a better life for their families, I’d venture to say a lot of you are in a lot of
pain but accept this as the norm.  Ignoring this pain is the worst thing you can do.  Do your
children really care about your pain and suffering for them, or have they become the new
world emperors figuring this is normal and entitlement comes at your costs?

Stop creating spoiled brat emperors and lords, take care of yourself and teach them some
real human values, including living a healthy life style, learn to manage pain to get work
done and become independent.  Work is a normal part of life where everyone should do
their fair share.  Stop the dependence on outsourcing as this is a bad value to teach your
children.  Without this mindset our quality of life truly suffers as an individual, family and
nation.   Our generation is killing itself off and teaching your children the same path.  Our
values will be lost if you don't figure out the point I'm attempting to get across, because all
of us will kill ourselves off trying to provide our children with a better life than what we
had... "Are you really providing your children a better future?"

The problem with this type of thinking and activity, “I must create Rome for my child,” at
all cost…  You physically push beyond pain & stress tolerances to provide the life of a Lord
for your children.  By continuing this insanity you risk your health and longevity by
aggravating preexisting injuries to a point of intolerable pain where acute becomes chronic.
Once your pain becomes chronic (long-term), you cannot turn the injury around.  You then
are left with continuous pain at varying levels dependent on activity.  If you get enough of
these chronic pain centers, you’ll not be able to work the way you had in the past, you truly
risk future earnings, health and longevity.  One needs to learn to change the mind set for
self preservation and happy healthy life style.  If we all were brought up on the principles of
health maintenance, daily work load balance and pain management, our generation and the
next would be so much better off with regard to our quality of life and ability to live a long
healthy life with our families.  It all boils down to fair distributed workloads for all.  For
example, families should all participate in chores and home projects.  Children should learn
at an early age how to work and think for themselves with a structured system within the
house hold.  They also need to understand with any task there is physical exertion that may
cause irritation to the body, or pain at varying level (One needs to learn to gage this, “but
not an excuse to get out of work!”).
CHAPTER 13  “Back Breaking Field Exercise”
15 April 1995,

Posted 16 May 2008

“Lee, you know when our flight out of this shit hole will arrive?  We’ve only been fermenting
out in this 95F heat for 3 hours.”

“Naw, nobody told me crap.  Shit, this sucks.  You got any water left in your canteen?”

“Nope, I’m out.  Look at all these fools out here with us; guess we’re not the only crazy
ones… A freaken Battalion with no water buffalo in sight, that makes sense, we’ll all die of
dehydration before we even get started. Oh well, that’s why we get paid the big bucks
[chuckling].”

“Woodard, when did command say our… You hear something?”

“Sounds like Apocalypse Now.  Lee and I began humming the theme, duh... duh, duh...
duh….. Duh… duh... duh, duh... duh….. Duh… Along with our left and right counterparts
laying low behind their protective burms, Striker was ignoring us [man, he’s way too
serious].”

“What the hell... Those are UH-1 Huey’s; you know when those rolled out of the
manufacturing line?”

“Let me take a stab… 1967?”

“Exactly, damn you’re on fire!”

“Lee aren’t those others coming in at three o’clock the converted UH-1V Medivac
configuration?

“Dude, does it look like I’d know the answer to “that” question?  Ask Striker.”

“No I don’t know about that… Hey I think you guys better get ready to bust out to your
ride and quit talking about shit that doesn’t matter.  Wait for the boarding signal.”

“What, do we have stupid written on our face?”

“Hey, I was only giving you a heads up.”

“Lee, make sure your ready and quick screwing around.”

“Oh, F-Off Woodard!

“No, F-You Lee!”

“Go!!  There signaling you guys to board the Huey… Keep your heads down!

“No crap, let’s go jump in that big piece of Huey bird shit and hope it doesn’t crash!

“Simultaneously we jump out of our protective position, running approximately 100 meters
crouched, protecting our eyes in a major dust storm brought about by the Huey’s prop
wash, also cognizant of our bodies in relation to the overhead massive propeller thumping
directly above us before boarding.”

“Striker was a serious military type.  Of course he was fresh out of JRTC (Reserve Officer
Training Corp) and we were fresh out of OCS (Officers Candidate School).  JRTC types are
fresh out of college and commissioned Second Lieutenants like us.  We referred to them as
brain washed know it all’s, that only see things in “black and white.”  Also, they appear to
have the mindset they “will” make general.  We think this is mostly true, but also agree
they’d be the first to be shot in the back by their own men during a time of war.  We on the
other hand were considered innovative, practical and worked the “gray” operations areas
using common sense [grey matter, get it.].  This is because Officer Candidates almost all
came up through the enlisted ranks.  We get the grunts mind set.  That’s why we “adapt
and overcome, with stttyyyyle.”  Of course, I may be just a little bias.”

“Get in!  Come On!  Move!  Move!!

“We jumped and got in the Huey after running through a dusty haze.  We then looked at
each other realizing we needed to latch ourselves in properly.  I’ve got to tell you there’s a
certain amount of adrenalin that runs through your body in anticipation of what’s in front of
you.”  Things get serious at this time and we now focus on what comes next.

“Lee!

“Ya!

“How long we going to be in the air?

“Shit, I don’t even know where they are taking us.”

“I did not have the foggiest either.  In the Army during some field lane training activities, as
a follower, you don’t necessarily have all the information.  Of course, this is especially true
when you go through training after you become commissioned.  The officers selected in
leadership positions have all the information.”  It really sucks when you don’t have access to
the information, but good in a way because when you fail your mission in a leadership
position… Well that’s another story.”  As a follower especially when you are an officer during
training to learn your MOS (Military Occupational Skill), you become the grunt.  And with
grunt comes real physical work that can make or break the physical body.”

CHAPTER 1  “First Chronic Pain Experience”
Chronicle Excerpt, 21 June 1985,

Posted 19 June 2008,

We were definitely in shock while we pondered our existence.  I attempted to help those
that were in need prior to the police and medical personnel showing up.  There was no help I
could render.  The passenger of the other truck was a casualty of the drunk driver.  Her
husband was in shock as she laid lifeless at the bottom of the floor board broken into pieces.
He simply stated in a catatonic stare, “she’s gone, no one can help her.”  As I witness the
lifeless body, I stepped back feeling like I’d just been gut punched.  I immediately went over
to the drunk drivers vehicles that caused the entire mess.  He was passed out cold turkey…
Still breathing and appeared without injury.  I decided to leave him where he was laid on his
bench seat.

As the police and ambulance began to show up… You could see they moved with lightning
speed to render medical attention once boots hit the ground.  My wife and I at first didn't
understand why the authorities by-passed us.   I had to assume we appeared to be
spectators watching them do their thing.   Finally a police officer approached us and asked
where the bodies were from my Mazda B2000 pickup truck.  I stated, standing next to him,
“my wife and I were in that truck.”  He looked at Beth and I with wide eye amazement and
simply said, “You two walked away from that? God must truly be watching over you… “I’ve
never seen a body walk out of a wreck like that without injury or death, amazing!”  Well, the
next day would be very different, because I suffered internal injuries that the adrenaline
would hide for approximately 6 hours until overwhelming pain would put me in the military
hospital with months of rehabilitation.

The victims of the other vehicles didn’t fare so well with one casualty.  Of course, I could
never understand how the uninsured drunk driver that changed lives walked away without
any injuries or repercussions after all the legal matters had resolved.  This gentleman was
an illegal alien, had no auto insurance and did no time in jail.  He essentially got away with
involuntary man slaughter and destroying lives of those he touched, not paying for his
crimes.  He would only be exported out of country, no doubt came back as an illegal laborer
as past trends had demonstrated in court.  How many lives has he destroyed since that ill
fated night?  For the rest of my life I will suffer with chronic back pain because of his
inability not to drive drunk.  As for the other two victims, the deceased family members will
feel the loss of their daughter for the rest of their lives.  For the husband that was left
without a wife… He will also suffer loss of a loved one & pain for a lifetime.

CHAPTER 23  “Good Posture Starts at the Feet”
Chronicle Excerpt, 1 January 2006

Posted 15 July 2008,

The anatomical posture weight bearing dynamics connection while under “physical load”
starting at the feet are very important, because when the feet are anatomically flawed, some
other up-line structure will have to pick up the slack.  Like the leaning tree, the slack in this
case is picked up by the bottom one third of the tree because of the extreme lean to survive
in the forest.  The tree has to absorb a lot of foot pound pressure at this area because the
trees posture is not balanced [the tree now is greatly susceptible to injury at this point and if
the tree could speak, it would probably tell you it suffers chronic pain at the trunk].

Using cervical injuries in my neck as example, pain in my back & neck never have
completely gone away… I just learned how to use other parts of my body to get work done.
For example, when I dug a fox hole in the Army, I didn’t stand and dig, I would kneel and
dig relying on strong abs, shoulders, neck, arms and hands to get the work done without
aggravating the backs pain center more than necessary.  A body is capable of working
through great pain and aggravation if you have the correct training in work posture to
minimize the aggravation at primary pain centers throughout the body.  If you understand
and are in tune with your body, you can tolerate pain and work load balance your day
regardless of your environment.

Unfortunately, if you injure one of those other postural elements that you rely on to get
work done… You finally find yourself depending on smaller muscle groups to get the work
done.  You may create many other pain centers throughout your body if your posture
suffers injuries in other key weight bearing areas.   Because the body is all interconnected by
means of a neurological, muscular, skeletal highways, distal injuries away from a key pain
center can occur from a primary injury site (this distal injury is referred to "secondary or
lateral condition/injury" as a direct cause from a primary injury).

For example the neck is weight bearing and “in my case” if out of correct anatomical posture
for many years because of first, foot postural pain center problems (caused through military
training exercises), then lower back aggravations occurred then hip and back (bad posture
starts at the feet and works its way up the tree - weakening the tree).  My upper body then
picked up additional work load slack when other postural body segment centers were injured
in an attempt for healing to occur.  After my service connected hip(s) injuries, this created
further aggravation to the lower – upper back and neck strain [you get the point].

One area of my body that suffered acutely because of poor posture was neck pain that is now
chronic.  The neck has a neurological highway with a direct link to the shoulders, arms,
hands fingers and thumbs, thus “can” create further complicated health conditions.  You can
see how correct posture starting at the feet are so important to the overall health of the
entire postural frame of the body.  It is for this reason... If your feet bother you now, I highly
recommend you correct your posture with some "quality" foot orthotics to prevent further
degradation of your anatomical posture.
CHAPTER 17  “Disabilities Self Fulfilling Social Expectation, Case
& Point, Plus Recommendations”  Chronicle Excerpt, 15 May 08

Posted 12 Aug 2008,

I won’t pretend to know what you are experiencing in ways only you can relate.   However, I
will say, there may be some benefit and comfort in ways you can apply my health & fitness
techniques to improve your activity levels and experience a greater benefit than you would
otherwise.  I also believe if you can move segments of your body and learn to manage “a
tolerable pain threshold,” you than are better able to increase your daily level of activity
contributing to your overall body, mind & soul wellbeing.

If you’ve reached this point you’ve probably hit bottom.  I personally have not got to this
point, so it is difficult for me to "exactly" understand your predicament and what you
personally are going through.  I can however relate to your situation and offer health
recommendations that may be of some benefit.  I cannot be an expert in all health areas, but
can only attempt to place myself in this scenario.  My thoughts on this situation would be to
continue making small health improvements in my life to help me live as comfortable as
possible and not give up on myself until I took my last breath on this earth.  Even in the end
game, where the health conditions are so chronic [Christopher Reeves comes to mind], there
are activities and programs that can provide a mental and health benefit.

You truly must reach out to specialists, family and friends to assist you in creating a custom
acute, or chronic health program that will provide medical and therapeutic managed support
systems and activities to enjoy whatever quality of life is available to you.  When I began
writing this book, my goal was to specifically look at ways to manage acute and chronic pain
while maintaining a mirror athlete image [see “chronic pain” center at (www.mirrorathlete.
com).  I plan to continue practicing what I preach on myself until my end days.  I do not
consider myself an expert in every acute and chronic health condition, or situation.  I only
can offer health improvement ideals through my knowledge & experience base and hope to
provide some other insight that may be applicable to your special health, or physical
limitation situation where improvement health tips may provide a more positive health and
living experience.

CHAPTER 2  “17 Creed Principle Point Secrets of Staying Healthy With
Pain” Chronicle Excerpt, 07 July 01

Posted 15 Sep 2008,

MIRROR ATHLETE CREED has 17 Creed Principle Point Secrets in which proper fitness
conditioning, applied health, nutrition knowledge and behavioral components if used properly
while you age will allow your body to maximize and maintain your Mirror Athlete stature,
even with acute and chronic pain!  The “Mirror Athlete Healthy Life Program” techniques
provide supplemental health and behavioral, to include insight with necessary knowledge
better to understand how your body reacts to specific internal and external activity cause
and effect relationships.  Understanding these fitness, nutrition and health relationships,
coupled with customized activity components allows one to create a custom Mirror Athlete
healthy life program.  Through proper use of these 17 essential point principles a safe
acceptable daily health maintenance  program will provide the Mirror Athlete an ability to
reach his, or her healthy centurion goals while managing pain and enjoying life to the fullest!

17    SECRET CREED Mirror Athlete Principles,

1.    Consult your family physician prior to participating in the Mirror Athlete’s Creed
Principles and read this book thoroughly and carefully.  Continue to refer back to “Mirror
Athlete with Pain” advanced techniques as you advance in your health and fitness
conditioning program.  Begin a walking, wheelchair, hand cycle, or stationary exercise
program, “Do not delay if you have the physical ability to do so!”  Also, refer back to our
home site www.mirrorathlete.com for other free tips and tricks in maintaining your health
and subscribe to our FREE monthly newsletter, “Looking at Your Self.  Got Health?”

a.    To understand your overall health and physical capabilities prior to conditioning your
body while improving your fitness levels is very important prior to beginning a preventative
maintenance health program.   Preventing further illness and mending the body, mind and
soul through healthy activity techniques is key to living a long life to the fullest (Healthy
Centurion, chapter 18).  If your injuries are severe… Prior to exercise activity, read this book,
create a custom program that appears right for you and present your exercise plan to your
primary care physician, sports medicine, or physical therapy specialist.   Check out your local
business sports medicine and/or physical therapist listings and make an appointment for
those of you that have extreme pain & physical challenges, requiring 1:1 assistance.  They can
look at your medical history, the workout plan you created from reading this book, assess
your fitness levels and provide activity goal modification exercise tips for your special activity
needs.  In this way, not only do you receive a truly custom workout program for your healthy
life program, you can feel confident you’re maximizing your efforts without unnecessary risk
to your preexisting injuries while you perform preventative and recuperative health
maintenance on your body.  Also, follow up with your primary care provider and let them
know what type of physical activity program you are participating in.  You may get some
other good advisement and support within your pain management program and other tips to
further customize your healthy life activity program.  Mirror Athlete secret principles allow
you to design a program that is right for you, as opposed to someone telling you what’s right
for you!  The difference with a principle custom health concept of this type created by you...
With outside medical support if required, you truly own a stake and can provide
recommendations in your preventative and recuperative health conditioning program
working with your specialist.  All too often, the medical community makes choices for us that
do not maximize our health maintenance and activity goal objectives, or potentials due to an
overtaxed medical resource system.  This book provides you with all types of ammo to take
hold and maintain a healthy active Mirror Athlete lifestyle through custom fitness & health
programming and activity concept-techniques ("Mirror Athlete Science").

b.    If you’ve been successful at fitness conditioning in the past, but have been away from
these types of activities for some time, I highly recommend you get a full physical from your
physician and read “chapter 23 - Back to the Basics, Fitness Training.”  I also highly
recommend you begin a low-intensity aerobics program such as walking, wheelchair, hand
cycle, or stationary equipment to maintain cardiovascular endurance, posture, muscle tone
conditioning, etc., before you attempt some of your intermediate conditioning-activity goals
(See Para 1a.).

CHAPTER  10 "Work Hard Party Hard”
Chronicle Excerpt, 10 June 1978

Posted 15 Oct 2008,

I knew as long as I was on the right track, or mostly a positive direction in life… My family
philosophy allowed me to experiment with choices that “at times” was not in my best
interest.  The key here, did I learn from my mistake and not repeat a bad decision, or did I
continue to make the same bad decisions as a child, or even worse as an adult?  I’d say if you
still make the same bad choices as an adult, you still don’t have a philosophy, or moral code to
live by.  If this is the case, it is not too late to develop a life’s philosophy to live by.  Choose and
create a positive life guideline and value system and stick to it.  To incorporate a life
philosophy regardless of “philosophy type,” is better than no life philosophy at all!  Traditional
family values and morals developed early in life make the world an easier place to survive as
an adult.

A life philosophy is more than a set of rules it’s a positive way of living in which to make good
decisions to live your life the best way possible through adulthood.  The point here; a family
must learn to work together and through parental example, create a family philosophy for
your children’s sake.  Without a life philosophy, children as adults don’t understand how to
optimize their life choices.  This is because life choice selections may be based solely through
peers, employer or educational institutions, for example.  Without traditional family values
our children are only learning peer, employer and institutional values.  With this being said,
this is much what is wrong with our culture today.  I like to refer to institutional development
without traditional parental values as those that have been “institutionalized (adults without
heart).”  “Need I say more?”

It seemed to be a daunting task for us as teenagers to figure out how to manage our daily
lives.  I know it’s tougher now for our youth as many of the traditional families in America
have broken, or no family philosophies to guide, or develop morale character.  I think most
kids struggle to figure out their placement in this world like most of us do as adults.  And while
doing so, “attempt with, or without responsible adult guidance.”  Developing a code of ethics,
values and standards that serve as guidelines for all tasks, activities and encounters
throughout life is a key ingredient for a successful and happy life.  Without parental
involvement our children fall prey to the advisement of other peers seeking advisement.

This is not a good mix.  We’ve all heard the phrase “misery loves company.”  Then you know
misery can turn into something very ugly and evil unchecked!  While there are variations of
life guidelines from different mediums, there are also many consequential paths one could
take with various results and outcomes.  One could argue his/her path is the “best” course to
take in life.  Adults tend to want their children to take their course and can’t understand why
their children “don’t see the ever so clear light, the light path we see.”  This is mostly because
each one of us is an individual that requires finding our own path or way in life.  This is where
the meaning of life comes into play which will not be addressed here.  “I will only say in short,
it is up to each one of us to find meaning and purpose on this planet.  To not find meaning and
purpose through the body, mind and soul is not to be whole in our human form!”

CHAPTER 21, "Change Eating Habits By Changing Behavior, Teach Your
Children A Healthy Life Program," Chronicle Excerpt, 25 June 2008

Posted 15 November 2008,

"Think about it...  If your children become educated within a healthy life program and carry
this behavior into adulthood what would be the most likely outcome?"  Would they pursue
pharmaceuticals, or pursue healthier alternatives for maintenance of health conditions, etc.?
Would health facilities be inundated with repeat patients having acute and chronic immune
problems?   Would there be more or less sickness in your family?  Would consumers buy more
or less fast foods in restaurants, or stores?  Would family values improve, or decrease as a
result of a positive value system?  Would good nutrition have an impact on your children's
learning and value systems?  Would employment and disability numbers improve, or
decrease?  Would your discretionary spend habits improve, or not?

The list goes on and on... I simply cannot address each of these outcomes with regard to the
value of a healthy life program.  Instead I would like you to think in terms of... "What would a
healthy life program starting at childhood through adulthood do for your family’s health and
what change would a program like this have on industries and government?  Would industries
change their product mix ways, or go out of business?"  "Remember, it's All About The
Money!!!"  If you hit them were it hurts, you can get them to change their ways, or their out of
business and new business models arise!  The way to do this is to educate your children, be a
positive healthy role model and get involved in your communities education system, and/or
write to your congressmen and senators!  Let them know that a healthy life program is
important to all families and our nation’s health!

I'm not saying there aren't health exceptions where man needs to intervene with some form
of surgical or pharmaceutical treatment.  I'm saying "a lot" of people with weight issues and
other general health problems would prevent further damage to their bodies by not taking
"quick diet elixirs, or forego unnecessary surgery without first exploring other natural, or safe
alternatives."  For example, "In most cases obesity can be managed by changing eating habits
and incorporating a moderate exercise program."   "One should be leery of consuming man-
made products that are not organically farmed and prepared as God intended."

Natural earthly food resources not only include organic food, but also include scientifically
formulated "natural supplements [as found at our Wellness Company and other natural
supplement product suppliers]"  that have been balanced with the RDA (Recommended Daily
Allowance) vitamins & minerals, also fortified with "safe" levels of other natural ingredients
where under controlled studies show a health benefit.  Under the healthy life program, it
would be important to educate children on how “some, not all" products approved by the FDA
(Federal Drug Administration) receives a stamp of approval, but does not necessarily mean
long-term use is a healthy alternative.
